KSB FGD Slurry Pump

The KSB KWP FGD Slurry Pump is a heavy-duty, non-clogging centrifugal pump engineered for the severe demands of flue gas desulfurization (FGD) and other industrial scrubbing processes. It is specifically designed to ensure reliable, efficient, and long-lasting performance when handling abrasive, corrosive, and solids-laden slurries, thereby maximizing operational uptime and minimizing lifecycle costs in power generation and industrial applications.

Technical Specifications & Customization of KSB FGD Slurry Pump

  • Performance: Capacities up to 15,000 m³/h and heads up to 140 meters.

  • Pressure & Temperature: Rated for PN 16 (16 bar). The standard operating temperature range is -40°C to +140°C, extendable to +280°C with C2 material grades.

  • Discharge & Drive: Available in discharge sizes from DN 40 to DN 800 with flanged connections. Drive options include direct coupling or belt drive with ratios from 1:1 to 1:2.

  • Material Customization: Beyond standard A49 or EN-GJL-250 casings, components can be upgraded to alloys like GX260CrMo27-2 or GX3CrNiMoCuN24-6-2-3 for severe corrosive and abrasive duties.

Engineering and Design Features of KSB FGD Slurry Pump

1. Robust Material Construction for Extreme Service

Critical wear components, including the impeller, casing, and wear plates, are manufactured from advanced, hardened materials to withstand simultaneous abrasion and corrosion. Selection includes:

  • CD4MCu: For highly acidic slurries within a pH range of 1–12.

  • 2205 Duplex Steel: Provides exceptional resistance to pitting and chloride-induced stress corrosion cracking.

  • A49 (High-Chrome White Iron): Offers superior abrasion resistance for high-solids slurries in a pH range of 4–14.

  • Norihard®: A proprietary material for enhanced durability.

Reinforced internals, such as volute casings with extra wear allowance and replaceable wear plates, further extend the pump's service life in high-wear environments.

2. Optimized Hydraulic and Impeller Selection

The pump is available with four distinct impeller types to match specific hydraulic and fluid characteristics:

  • F-Type (Free-Flow): A vortex impeller designed for slurries with large solids and entrained gases, ensuring non-clog operation.

  • K-Type (Closed): Delivers high-efficiency slurry transfer with minimal recirculation losses.

  • N-Type (Closed Multi-Vane): Suited for clear water and fluids with slight suspensions, such as treated sewage or process water.

  • O-Type (Open): Handles the same applications as the N-Type, with additional capability for fluids containing air.

3. Advanced Sealing Systems

Multiple sealing configurations are available to prevent leakage and ensure reliability:

  • Conical Mechanical Seal Chamber: An integrated design that facilitates cooling and drainage to prevent overheating and failure with abrasive media.

  • Dual Mechanical Seals: An optional, ATEX-compliant solution for hazardous areas or highly aggressive chemistries.

  • Standard Gland Seal: For general service conditions.

  • High-Temperature Gland Seal: A cooled stuffing box design for fluid temperatures exceeding 90°C.

4. Heavy-Duty Mechanical Construction

  • Back Pull-Out Design: Allows for the complete removal of the rotor assembly (impeller, shaft, bearings) without disconnecting the suction or discharge piping, enabling rapid maintenance and part replacement.

  • Shaft: Forged from high-strength materials like C45+N steel or Noridur® 1.4593 stainless steel for superior torsional strength.

  • Bearings: Utilizes Germany-standard, oil-lubricated bearings rated for a service life exceeding 30,000 hours, capable of supporting heavy radial and axial loads.

Primary Applications and Operational Benefits of KSB FGD Slurry Pump

Applications:

  • Circulation of limestone and gypsum slurries within FGD systems.

  • Absorber feed, wastewater handling, and ash slurry transfer in power plants.

  • Transport of acidic or caustic slurries in chemical, mining, and metallurgical scrubbing processes.

Benefits:

  • Reduced Downtime: The back pull-out design and interchangeable wear parts facilitate swift maintenance.

  • Energy Efficiency: Hydraulically optimized impellers can reduce power consumption by up to 20%.

  • Leak-Free Reliability: Advanced sealing systems prevent environmental contamination.

  • Extended Longevity: Corrosion-resistant materials and hardened internals significantly reduce lifecycle costs.

Compliance and Model Designation

The pump series complies with key international standards, including the ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU for explosion-proof versions, ISO 9001 for quality management, and EN standards for materials (e.g., EN 1561, EN-GJS-400-18-LT).

Model Explanation: KWP F 150-300

  • KWP: Series designation.

  • F: Denotes a Free-flow impeller.

  • 150: Discharge size (DN 150).

  • 300: Impeller diameter (300 mm).

The KSB KWP FGD Slurry Pump integrates advanced German engineering with ruggedized construction to excel in the most challenging slurry applications. Its modular design, material versatility, and proven reliability ensure uninterrupted performance in critical emission control and industrial processes. Custom solutions are available based on specific fluid properties, including pH, solids content, and temperature.
